1. Jay Cooke State Park
One great weekend getaway within driving distance of Cokato is Jay Cooke State Park at 780 MN-210. There is a lot to do here, including walking across the iconic Swinging Bridge that spans the St. Louis River. You can also enjoy stunning views of the St. Louis River valley at Oldenburg Point. Additionally, there are dozens of miles of trails that you can enjoy hiking, biking, mountain biking, or horseback riding.
There are several camping and lodging options at this state park. If you don’t want to sleep under the stars in a tent, you can book a camper cabin that sleeps five to six people. Each rustic cabin features bunk beds and mattresses, so you don’t need to pack sleeping bags. These cabins also feature a grill, fire ring for making s’mores, and a picnic table.
2. Whitewater State Park
We also recommend visiting Whitewater State Park at 19041 Highway 74. There is plenty to enjoy here, including hiking, fishing, and picnicking. One of the most beautiful vistas to take in is the view from Inspiration Point. This limestone outcrop is such a popular spot to hike to because there is no civilization as far as the eye can see.
If you enjoy fishing, we strongly recommend strolling along Trout Run Creek and trying your hand at catching a rainbow or brown trout. Once you’re done fishing, you can head over to the Main Picnic Shelter or South Picnic Grounds. You can grill your fresh catches and enjoy a delicious meal with your family.
3. Clear Lake State Park
Clear Lake State Park at 6490 S. Shore Dr. is also worth spending a weekend at. This 55-acre state park is home to one of the most popular campgrounds in Iowa, and you can enjoy shower facilities and a modern restroom. When you’re not camping, there are plenty of things to do here, including swimming, sunbathing, boating, and fishing for:

- Catfish
