Cokato, MN, is an awesome place for outdoor activities all year long. If you’re looking for inspiration, start with this list of our four favorite spots in the area for a fun day in the sun.

Peterson Park

This Cokato park covers about 4 acres and has a picnic shelter with tables, a baseball diamond, and playground equipment. We love visiting Peterson Park in the winter for the great sledding hill. It’s also the site of Cokato’s annual Corn Carnival: a must-attend August event for locals. You’ll find Peterson Park at 655 Broadway Ave S.

Veterans Memorial Park

Another one of our favorite outdoor spots in Cokato, Veterans Memorial Park features open fields, baseball diamonds, a batting cage, a boat launch, and a fishing pier. You can also catch a Minnesota Amateur Baseball game with the Cokato Kernels here during the summer. Veterans Memorial Park is located on the east side of Brooks Lake at Johnson Ave N and Brooks Lake Rd.

Pioneer Park

You can visit this cool attraction just a 20-minute drive from Cokato in Annandale. Pioneer Park began in 1972 to preserve the pioneer history of Minnesota, with a special focus on the late 1800s and early 1900s. It features historic buildings, artifacts, and exhibits, designed to look like a town from this era with a train depot, schoolhouse, barn, church, doctor’s office, barbershop, blacksmith’s office, and much more.

As you stroll through Pioneer Park, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in time. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. If you plan to visit in the winter, call the park office for hours. Admission costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students ages 6 to 17, and free for younger children. Pioneer Park is at 725 Pioneer Park Trail.

Apple Jack Orchards

This fun farm experience is located in Delano about 30 minutes from Cokato. Kids can enjoy the array of outdoor equipment including a ropes course, obstacles, jumping pillows, and an apple cannon. You can also pick your own apples to take home beginning in mid-August. When you’re hungry, stop by the cafe for burgers, brats, pickles, and of course, both hot and cold apple cider.

While you’re here, don’t forget to grab a dozen donuts at the bakery, visit the resident goats, and stop by the gift shop for cute merchandise. Apple Jack Orchards is located at 4875 37th St SE. It’s open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
