Cokato is a small town, but you’ll still find lots of ways to keep your little ones busy during weekends and school vacations. If you’re not sure where to start, seek inspiration with this list of our four favorite kid friendly activities near Cokato, MN.

1. The Mushroom Building

Kids will be wowed by this mushroom-shaped vintage gas station, preserved by the Dassel Historic Society.  Every Monday evening during the summer, the town hosts mushroom promenades to celebrate their community, with the building as the center of the celebration.

The events feature live music and delicious desserts, so it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a fun way to spend a weeknight.  This cool historic landmark It’s located just a few minutes west of Cokato at 521 1st Street in Dassel.

2. The Cokato Museum

If you want your kids to learn more about Cokato history, the town museum should be your next rainy-day destination. Exhibits showcase the 50th anniversary of Dassel-Cokato Junior-Senior High School and the life of kit car builder and racer Jerry Knapp (a Cokato native).

The Historical Society, which manages the museum, also hosts annual events such as an open house on Memorial Day and a Corn Carnival in August. The Cokato Museum is located at 175 4th Street Southwest in Cokato. Admission is free and it’s open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

3. Peterson Park

Described by the Parks and Rec Department as the hub of Cokato, Peterson Park features nearly 5 acres of space with fun features for kids. Your family can enjoy the sledding hill when weather permits, as well as a playground and baseball fields.

Peterson Park is at the corner of Broadway and Fourth Avenue, right next to the town elementary school.

4. Veterans Memorial Park

This Cokato park is the ideal summer destination for fishing and boating, with a dedicated launch ramp and access to Brooks Lake. You can fish for white crappie, Northern pike, largemouth bass, blue gill, black crappie, black bullhead, and many other local fish species. The park also has a playground, open fields, and covered picnic tables.
Sports fans can enjoy Minnesota Amateur Baseball by rooting for the Cokato Kernels, who play at the fields here. Veterans Memorial Park is located at Johnson Avenue North at Brooks Lake in Cokato.
